Weeping Tile Blockage: Water Flowing Back Into Basement (Newmarket)
In this short video from Newmarket, Ontario, you can see water flowing out of the weeping tile between two sections of clay pipe beneath the basement floor. This is a clear sign that the weeping tile is blocked somewhere between the house and the storm sewer connection, causing water to back up instead of draining away from the foundation.
When weeping tile is partially or fully blocked, water can build up around the perimeter of the foundation. Over time, this can lead to basement leaks, foundation cracks leaking under pressure, spalling of the foundation wall, or water entering at the floor–wall joint. In this case, the problem was successfully addressed by flushing the weeping tile line to clear the blockage and restore proper drainage to the storm sewer.
If you notice white staining (efflorescence) spanning across the bottom of your foundation wall, moisture staining around cracks in the basement floor, or dark stains at the base of support posts, it’s important to investigate before the problem worsens. You can call us or text a photo or short video of what you’re seeing for fast feedback from a technician.
