External Excavation and Waterproofing Services

Call the Experts You Can Trust!

AquaGuard Injection & Waterproofing® is an established Waterproofing Contractor, in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), that offers the full range of foundation waterproofing solutions for all foundation types.

Among the numerous waterproofing solutions that we offer is external wateproofing, typically referred to as external excavation and waterproofing, this waterproofing method is arguably the most common waterproofing technique used by Waterproofing Contractors. It's widespread use is attributable to its effectiveness (when done properly) and it's applicability to all foundation types - stone, concrete block, and poured concrete.

At AquaGuard Injection & Waterproofing ® external excavation and waterproofing is executed in 6 steps as follows:
1. Excavation of the foundation wall down to the footing;
2. Removal of the existing weeping tile/perimeter drain tile;
3. Application of an a elastomeric compound onto the excavated wall (this is not the case with all waterproofing contractors);
4. Installation of an air-gap membrane onto the excavated wall;
5. Installation of new weeping tile; and
6. Confirmation that the entire system drains adequately.

Note: There can be major differences in the products that contractors use; this can lead to poor results when a "general" contractor attempts "specialized" repairs such as waterproofing.

This is what a typical external excavation and waterproofing job looks like:

Appearance of excavated poured concrete wall with visible footing The waterproof rubber coating applied to exterior surface of a block wall will prevent water from penetrating the wall for many years Appearance of waterproofed wall on completion prior to backfilling of soil

Note 1: There are circumstances when external excavation is the best foundation waterproofing option; for example, when there is significant exterior deterioration of the foundation wall, and when is not possible, or desirable, to access the area requiring waterproofing from the inside.

Note 2: If you are not sure that external excavation and waterproofing is the most viable option for your situation, we invite you to explore our Basement Waterproofing Repair Methods table to find out about other waterproofing methods that are available for your type of foundation and the nature of the problem that you are having.
